Sipmith gin: where old and new meet
Ten carefully selected herbal ingredients together make Sipsmith gin. These ingredients come from various places in the world, which makes Sipsmith gin a worldly gin.
New distillery is the only one in London
Although gin is a quintessentially English product, gin distilling has long left the country's capital. Sipsmith is the first distillery in a long time to set up in London in 2009. The origin of gin, however, goes back to 1689, when British sailors brought the drink from India. The formula was changed, because local ingredients were used. The first time the word cocktail appeared anywhere is in 1798. Yet it lasts until 1850, when British troops return from India with an anti-malarial drug: gin tonic. With the arrival of Sipsmith to London in 2009, the distiller has brought about a revival in the English capital. Gin is back with a vengeance. There are many brands of gin that have London Dry on their labels, but Sipsmith is so far the only gin that is actually made in London. Sipsmith has a unique process for the Sipsmith Dry gin. The herbs are co-distilled with the alcohol and then the concentrate is applied with spring water. This natural water comes from the Thames. The time-honored recipe and traditional gin production process is given a new look from Sipsmith: where old and new meet. Sipsmith gin is made in a traditional way in handmade copper kettles, which are more than two hundred years old. The gin is produced in small numbers, making it an exclusive product.
Worldly ingredients for an exotic gin
Macedonian juniper berries, Spanish licorice root, ground almonds, orange and lemon peel, Bulgarian coriander seed, Italian orris root, Madagascar cinnamon, French angelica and Chinese kasia bark are brought together in the Sipsmith Dry gin. This cosmopolitan mix can also be called traditional. None of the ingredients will surprise a nineteenth-century master distiller. Connoisseurs call the Sipsmith gin a full, soft gin, in which the flavors come into their own. In the first sip you mainly taste juniper, followed by the flavors of citrus and marmalade. Finally, it is again the taste of juniper that predominates. Sipsmith gin is an exotic gin because of the worldly ingredients. The taste of the Sipsmith gin has various sensations. You can recognize the round scent of juniper, but also fresh citrus and the floral taste of a summer meadow. The bottles of Sipsmith gin are traditional, although the label gives it an exotic touch.
